Nigeria leads the world in the number of SCD cases. Approximately 150,000 babies are born annually with SCD in Nigeria. Sadly, 70-90% of affected infants die before reaching age 5. Nigerian SCD patients face staggering healthcare costs, with monthly expenses ranging from N70,000 to N1,000,0003. Up to 650 children die per day in sub-Saharan Africa from SCD1.{Arwa et al., 2019}
